Summer Outdoor Activities In Oconto County!

ATV Oconto County offers over 300 miles of ATV trails and routes in county forests and on town roads. ATV use is restricted to this trail system and on private lands with the owner’s permission. Please follow all safety precautions. ATV trails are open May 1 — October 31.

Winter rules were inacted in 2007. ATV use is allowed from December 15 to such date as there is groomable snow. Once there is groomable snow on the Nicolet Trail the trails are closed to ATV use until the following May 1st.


NOTE: Dirt bikes and off road vehicles are not allowed on the trails.

Mountain Biking / Touring There are four established mountain bike trails in Oconto County, totaling 98 miles. Trails range from easy gravel surface to advanced, as described on the table below. Oconto County has a network of 2,073 miles of county trunk and town roads that are more “bicycle friendly”. Be adventurous, chart your own course between our friendly communities using, the Oconto County Recreation Map.

Hiking The Nicolet National Forest and Oconto County Forest are yours to enjoy! Hike along the snowmobile or cross-country ski trails. Explore the many forest lanes and logging trails. These areas will be yours to enjoy forever if you take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints. Always approach wild animals with respect and common sense.

Horse Riding Trail Explore ten miles of Machickanee County Forest. Trails are a combination of roadside and logging roads where vehicular traffic is prohibited. Horseback riding is also allowed on the Nicolet Trail from Gillett to Townsend.

Winter Outdoor Activities In Oconto County

Snowmobiling Nine snowmobile clubs in Oconto County maintain 425 miles of trails and would welcome your membership. Contact Oconto County Tourism toll free at 1-888-626-6862 for maps and trail conditions.

Note: $18 non-Wisconsin resident snowmobile pass required.

Cross-Country Skiing Over 49 miles of cross-country ski trails wait for you in the Nicolet National and Oconto County Forests. Many of these trails serve as multi-use trails depending on the season.
