Gillett
Whether you’re a home town kid or someone just looking for a quiet place to call home, Gillett is the place to be. Located on Highways 22 and 32 in western Oconto County, the city is just forty-five minutes from Green Bay and fifty miles north of Appleton.
For young families the community offers day care and a fine K-12 school district with competitive athletic and academic teams for girls and boys. It’s the kind of town all kids should grow up in. For elders, Gillett is a quiet and safe city where everyone knows your name.
The area is served by a medical clinic, with the local hospital just ten minutes away. It also has a resident dentist, a certified eye doctor, four beauty salons, two barbers, a chiropractor, and a massage therapist. In-home health care is also offered.
Zippel Park, in the heart of the city, hosts the 4th of July celebration and the Oconto County Fair in August. In December, the Gillett Business Association sponsors “Christmas in the Park”. A 3/4 mile walking trail circles the park. The Jones Sports Complex hosts softball and baseball fields, tennis and volleyball courts. Both Zippel Park and Jones Sports complex have horseshoe pits and playground areas. Finnegan Lake Walleye Club sponsors a fishing tournament in February.
The downtown is anchored by the post office, two banks, hardware store, variety store, restaurant, grocery store and numerous service businesses. To wet your whistle, stop by one of the local watering holes.
Gillett’s industrial park includes many of the city’s businesses and industries, and there are numerous places of worship for you to attend while you are here. The many area organizations help develop community and make Gillett an inviting place to come home to.
